Student Minister

 

Principal Function

The Student Minister leads FBC Athen’s ministry to students (6th-12th grade), endeavoring to lead them to maturity in Christ and living out the mission of the church to Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples. To that end, he is responsible for the overall planning, coordinating, promoting, and leading of a variety of programs and activities that will develop and strengthen the students in their Christian walk.

 

Qualifications

  1. Meets the hiring and evaluating criteria of pastoral leadership at First Baptist Church:
    • Calling – demonstrates a clear call to gospel ministry through the local church
    • Character – gives evidence of the character and conduct expected of a pastor, as explained in passages such as 1Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4
    • Competence – demonstrates competence in matters pertaining to ministry in general and specially to student ministry
    • Chemistry – gives evidence of the ability to work well with others and be part of our ministerial staff
  2. Desire to serve in a ministerial role amongst the entire membership of First Baptist Church, with specific oversight of student ministry.
  3. Ability and desire to teach God’s Word.
  4. Able to effectively teach, disciple, minister to, and connect with students
  5. Able to provide timely communication to students, parents, and the church regarding youth ministry activities and needs.
  6. Able to organize and lead an effective student ministry.
  7. Able to manage a ministry budget effectively.
  8. Able to recruit and organize volunteers to serve in student ministry.
  9. Possesses sound, biblical theology and in full agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message (200).
  10. Bachelor’s degree required; seminary education preferred.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Build deep, meaningful relationships with students.
  2. Build relationships with parents and families to partner with them in the discipleship of their students.
  3. Alongside the Senior Pastor, develop a holistic strategy for ministry to students.
  4. Plan, coordinate, and execute a yearly calendar for student ministry, including but not limited to:
    1. Wednesday nights
    2. Sunday morning
    3. Special events: Summer camp, DNOW, etc.
    4. Additional bible studies
  5. Provide robust biblical teaching and discipleship through Sunday School, Wednesday nights, and other avenues.
  6. Develop a dynamic Wednesday night program for students.
  7. Engage the local schools in reaching out to students.
  8. Engage in the overall life of the church as both a minister and a church member.
  9. Assist the other ministries of the church as needed.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
