Job Summary:

 

The Children’s Minister will plan, organize and direct the family ministry efforts of the Children’s Ministry by acting as an advocate, role model, mentor and encourager of all children and their families. The position seeks to become personally acquainted with current and potential church families.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and maintain key children ministry volunteers and leaders
  • Coordinate and lead strategies to grow children and family ministry within the church
  • Plan, promote and supervise a program of education, evangelism, discipleship, special events and activities for the children’s ministry
  • Lead children’s ministry in visitation and outreach to prospects and members
  • Minister, lead and teach children, families, and workers in the church
  • Cooperate with the pastoral staff and church staff in participating and promoting church events
  • Ensure that weekly children and family ministries are fully staffed and equipped
  • Oversee the setup and operation of all related children’s ministry environments
  • Oversee and manage key events such as church camps, Vacation Bible School (VBS)  and outreach events
  • Accept other outreach assignments as related to the overall work and ministry of the church
  • Maintain needed supplies for Sunday School and other children’s ministry needs 

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with all forms of technology involving group planning and communication including FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram and other emerging social media
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and desktop publishing software
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Quality leadership skills
  • Exceptional administrative skills including the ability to supervise, monitor, evaluate and provide feedback to volunteers, pastors and staff

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing of volunteers during children’s ministry events, classes and programs

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prefer a degree in or pursuing a ministry related degree and/or experience in leading a church children’s ministry
  • 2-5 years in Children ministry related experience required

Physical Requirements:

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 pounds, or the weight of an average child, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:  pushing and/or pulling, climbing, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office environment or classroom area.  Employee may be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
