Senior Pastor

First Babtist Church is located in southeast Georgia, in the town of Waycross.  Waycross is a traditional rural southern community of around 14,000 in the city and 36,000 in the county.  it is a small town where the residents value community and many are active in local schools, sports, churches, and events.  

First Baptist has been in the community of Waycross for over 100 years.  We have a rich heritage in Christ and the community.  Generations of believers have come to the saving knowledge of Christ through this church and its ministries.  We have a strong, loving congregation of 150 active members that is ready to serve our community let gy a new Senior Pastor.  We presently have a Transitional Pastor guiding us through Transitional study process.  We are excited for our next season of growth.  

Job Overview

We are looking for a servant leader with a strong biblical knowledge to lead our congregation through preaching, discipleship training, and leading ministries to share the saving knowledge of Christ with our community.  The candidate will need to have strong communication skills (both in the pulpit and inter-personal), a calling for developing new leaders, a passion for reaching people, and the ability to motivate others to be a part of God's redemptive cause.

Responsibilities

    1. Leadership Skills:

• Envision new possibilities for the ministry of First Baptist Church.
• Think strategically about opportunities and challenges.
• Identify and communicate clear goals to staff, leadership, and congregation.
• Lead and manage church staff and church leaders.
• Develop ministry committees/teams with staff and church leaders.
• Employ current technology/media for effective ministry.
• Establish connections and work with community leaders (area schools, business, etc.)

    2.  Communication Skills:

• Delivering strong biblical preaching and teaching that is practical with clear application, presonal/relational, textual, and narrative.
• Teach and communicate God's Word in a variety of settings such a s small groups, bible studies, events, and fellowship opportunities.
• Utilize technology tools, including social media, to reach both church members and those outside the church.
• Oversee written communications throughout the church as well as worship service planning.
• Work in and build a multi-generational environment.

    3.  Relationship Skills:

• Be a strong encourager to others.
• Possess strong inter-personal communication skills both as a listener and as a speaker.
• Recognize and develop the strengths of others.
• Be a comforting and healing presence for those in need.

Qualifications

    1.  Personal Qualities:

• Maintain a astong devotional and prayer life.
• Provide a strong, yet comforting presence for people.
• Utilize passion and energy in implementing ministry.
• Possess attitudes and behaviors guided by biblical principles.
• Maintain a wholesome family life in regard to time, attitude, and committment, including the family's participation within the church as a family unit.
• Maintain and progress in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

    2.  Prefessional Quailities:

• Have 1-10 years experience in a pastoral or comparable role in a church.
• Have experience working with and managing multiple staff members.
• Exhibit strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Have a degree (Masters or higher) from an accredited seminary or bible college is preferred.
• Possess experience in building and working with ministry and leadership teams.
