ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF OPERATIONS

Position type:  Full-time, Salaried, Exempt

Reports to:  Senior Pastor

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Associate Pastor of Operations assists the Senior Pastor in carrying out the mission, vision and direction of the church.  He serves as Chief Operations Officer of the church in providing supervision and direction to the church staff and ministries.   This role requires a passion for both leadership development (helping the staff team thrive) and practical stewardship (running everything well and getting it done).  The right leader will possess a pastoral heart and instinct, a passion for gospel ministry, and proven skill in organizational leadership and management.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate and relationally engage in the life and ministry of Temple on Sundays and throughout the week
  • Responsible for the day-to day operations at the campus
  • Provide a visible and accessible leadership presence during services
  • Attend and/or serve at Temple functions (i.e. dinners, special services, community activities, special functions hosted by Temple)

EXECUTIVE RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Assist Senior Pastor
    • Preach and teach as assigned by the Senior Pastor
    • Manage special projects as assigned by the Senior Pastor
    • Represent Senior Pastor in key committees / task forces
    • Lead in resolving issues involving church members / community
    • Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms and other pastoral functions as requested by Senior Pastor
  • Develop and execute ministry strategies
    • Lead in strategic planning, alongside Long-range Planning Committee
    • Lead in evaluating, selecting, oversight and administration of Connect education material
    • Provide leadership and support for special projects led by Committees or groups within the church body 
    • Insure adherence to church documents, policies and procedures
    • Lead annual budget process, alongside Finance Committee
  • Provide Staff leadership
    • Direct leadership and oversight of all staff and ministerial positions excluding the Senior Pastor
    • Lead and direct the staff with their ministries to ensure alignment, effectiveness, and strategic development
    • Overseeing human resources operations, staff performance reviews and evaluations and collaborating with Personnel Committee and Senior Pastor for staff management
    • Work with Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee regarding overall staffing and ministry strategies
    • Leads regular staff meetings
    • Works alongside the staff to ensure they are adequately equipped to accomplish their jobs, challenge and encourage them, regularly evaluates structure and responsibilities and helps make changes.
    • Participate in the creative planning of special events with the Staff team
    • Supervise and direct key/lay leadership positions (Committee Chairpersons)
    • Work with Key/lay leadership in recommendations for the church
