Associate Pastor of Worship Ministries

Our Situation

FBCTV is a church representing over 20 denominations, so we are very diverse. Although there is no age minimum to live in Tellico Village (www.tellicovillage.org), it is mostly a retirement community, so our congregation is older, generally well-accomplished, and mostly retired. We have no youth program and a small children’s program, usually offered to meet the needs of grandchildren who might be visiting their family. However, it is important to note that we have a committed congregation which is well-equipped and eager to play a role in the work that God is doing in Tellico Village and around the world as we await the soon return of Jesus. There is no “retired” when it comes to following Jesus!

Presently, our pastoral team is comprised of a Lead Pastor, who is primarily responsible for vision, leadership, and preaching, and an Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Ministries, who is primarily responsible for discipleship, the execution of ministries, and congregational care.  However, both positions are being shaped as we partner together, and we generally work together in many areas of pastoral responsibilities. We also have a Leadership Council, comprised of the leaders of our various committees, which provides leadership to the direction of the church.

Our worship is a blend of contemporary and traditional. We have a choir, orchestra, and a worship team who lead us in worship on a weekly basis. Historically, our church has been more traditional, but we are changing because we are committed to reaching the next generation of 50- and 60-year-olds who are moving into our community as well as maximizing our ability to reach the areas outside of our village.

Our Need

Purpose*

The Associate Pastor is responsible for providing leadership in our worship ministries, including choirs, orchestra, pianist/organist, praise team, and media.

Responsibilities and Duties*

Worship Ministries

1. Participate in the Sunday morning worship services by leading our choir, orchestra, and worship team in guiding our congregation in worship.
2. Plan, select, organize, practice, and execute a worship script in conjunction with the Sunday sermon and/or the weekly Bible focus, which blends contemporary and traditional, while utilizing the choir and orchestra.
3. Maintain clear channels of communication with the Lead Pastor, informing him of activities and progress of assigned ministries together with any ministry's needs and challenges.
4. Meet regularly with the ministerial staff to plan, evaluate, and coordinate the various church ministries.
5. Communicate all audio and visual support needs with the Media Team in a timely manner.
6. Strategically partner with present leaders, pianist, and organist in our music ministry to maintain relationships and continue to build unity.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements

1. Seminary degree and 5-10 years of work experience evidencing a proven work ethic, successful leadership skills and skill to teach God's Word.
2. Vibrant and solid Christian faith with continued growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit in all ministry pursuits.
3. Possess a clear and distinct call from God to vocational ministry.
4. If married, has a strong marriage which is supportive of pastoral calling.
5. Ready and willing to plunge into activities with the congregation and with the community at large.
6. An administrative and operational leader who pays attention to detail.
7. A strategic thinker who can plan: "How to take the steps necessary to execute the stated vision or goal?”
8. Personally self-aware, self-confident, intrinsically motivated with a strong work ethic.
9. Has a heart for ministry to a congregation and community of active adults, active retirees, and active seniors.
10. Possess excellent communication and relational skills with the ability to communicate with persons of differing views in a healthy way to achieve the best results.
11. Has a servant's heart: Caring, diplomatic, an active listener, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
12. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in all things.

*Because of the size of our church, we will add a ministry component to this job description with every candidate we pursue after we determine and better understand the gifts, interests, and abilities of each candidate in relation to the gifts, interests, and abilities of the two pastors who are already on our staff. It is imperative that our pastoral team share the responsibilities of shepherding and nurturing our growing congregation as we work with the many people who are already serving in amazing ways in multiple impacting ministries.

One Example: Outreach Ministries

The Associate Pastor will be responsible for leading the church in outreach into our community, assisting us in reaching our “Jerusalem.” He will serve alongside of the pastoral team and engage with the congregation and the Tellico Village community at large to encourage Christians to become stronger in their faith and to bring non-believers to Christ.

1. Assist in equipping our congregation to reach our “Jerusalem.”
2. Provide opportunities for people to learn more about evangelism.
3. Provide a strategy for being an effective ambassador of Christ amid already busy lifestyles.
4. Partner with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship in executing a vision together.
