Job Description

Callahan Road Baptist Church

Knoxville Tennessee

 

The Senior Pastor is a full-time position that will serve as the spiritual leader of Callahan Road Baptist Church, by proclaiming the Gospel, teaching the Word and discipling the congregation.  The Senior Pastor’s main responsibilities are to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.

 

Minimum Training and Experience:

 

  • A degree in Theology, Biblical Studies or a related field is preferred but training or experience which would qualify a person to pastor a Southern Baptist church will be considered.
  • At least five years of experience in a pastoral role.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Called to the ministry.
  • Spiritually mature and ordained by a church body.
  • Ability and willingness to share Christ and disciple others.
  • Ability to empathize with the concerns of the congregation.

 

Spiritual Leadership:

 

  • Deliver sermons based on the inerrant Word of God.
  • Motivate, equip, nurture, and challenge the people of the church through example, preaching and application of God’s Word in their daily lives.
  • Foster a culture of evangelism, prayer, and discipleship within the congregation.
  • Perform the duties specified in the Church By-Laws.

 

Pastoral Care:

 

  • Work with the Deacons and Ministry Staff to offer compassionate care and counseling to individuals and families in times of joy, sorrow, and crisis.
  • Develop strong relationships with church members to encourage appropriate member involvement in the Ministries of the church.
  • Officiate at weddings and funerals as requested.
  • Lead in observance of communion and baptism.

 

Church Ministry Growth:

 

  • Oversee the Ministry Staff and Ministry Team volunteers.
  • Develop church members to lead and participate in the various Ministry Programs of the church.
  • Provide leadership to equip and empower church members necessary for a strong and growing Children’s Ministry.
  • Provide leadership to equip and empower church members necessary for a strong and growing Youth and College Ministry.
  • Ensure there are programs and personnel in place to disciple new Christians and new members.
  • Lead the Church Council to develop the direction of the Church in areas of evangelism and discipleship.

 

Community Engagement:

 

  • Engage and build relationships within the local community, participating in outreach and mission activities, and collaborating with other organizations to understand and address community needs.
  • Cooperate with local, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in denominational and civic matters.
