Job Title: Bivocational Pastor

Church Information

Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church located in Parsons, Tennessee, minutes from the beautiful Tennessee River and about halfway between Memphis and Nashville. Established 179 years ago, Bear Creek is currently the second-oldest church in Decatur County, Tennessee.

We are seeking a fresh vision for growing a multi-generational group in Christ with new membership coming in along with New Believers. We affirm the Baptist Faith and Message and hold to historic Baptist beliefs and meaningful church membership. We are guided in ministry by our church constitution.

We seek a Bivocational Pastor to join us in glorifying God, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, discipling believers, and making Christ known to our community and the world.

Purpose

• Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
• Teach biblical revelation.
• Engage in pastoral care ministries.
• Provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life.
• Lead the congregation into a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ.

Qualifications

• Born again with a personal testimony of conversion and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
• Alignment with Southern Baptist doctrines of faith (Baptist Faith and Message, 2000).
• Committed to integrity and accountability to those served.
• Meets biblical qualifications for a pastor (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; 1 Peter 5:1-4).
• A clear and open calling to pastoral ministry.
• A man skilled in rightly dividing the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15).
• Holds a conservative theological perspective and adheres to the inerrancy of the whole Word of God, Believe and defend it as the infallible Word of God without error.
• Effective public speaker and communicator.
• Strong leadership abilities, skills, and spiritual gifts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver sermons for Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and possibly Wednesday evening services.
• Oversee the pulpit for any service during the pastor’s absence, ensuring doctrinal consistency.
• Be a “Servant Leader.”
• Lead in observance of ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
• Moderate Business Meetings.
• Provide Premarital and Spiritual counseling as requested.
• Officiate at weddings or funerals as requested.
• Lead in planning, organizing, direction, coordinating, and evaluating the total church program.
• Work with deacons, church officers, and committees as needed and dictated by the church bylaws.
• Train and lead the deacons in a program of family ministries.
• Help church members realize their spiritual gifts.
• Lead and encourage local missions projects and support missions.
• Lead in the development of church budget that reflects the vision of the church.
• Be available to the congregation by phone or appointment.
• Visit members, their families, church shut-ins, when they are int he hospital, nursing home, etc., when appropriate and requested.
• Cooperate with the associations, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern.
• Attend Beach River Baptist Association meetings.

Compensation and Benefits

• Two weeks of vacation leave, including two Sundays, which can be taken together or separately.
• Two weeks of revival leave.
