Reports To: Minister of Music
Job Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Hours: 5-10 hours/week, plus seasonal events
Compensation: $25.00 per hour

Position Summary

The A/V Engineer will oversee and execute the technical production of worship services and church events. This role requires a balance of technical expertise in sound, lighting, and livestream support, along with a heart for ministry. The ideal candidate is a skilled troubleshooter who can mix a clear, engaging service and help guide a small team of volunteers.

Weekly Schedule Commitments

This position requires a regular weekly commitment of approximately 5-10 hours, structured across the church’s primary service times and technical support needs.

  • Sunday Morning: 2 hours for audio setup, soundcheck, and live technical execution for morning worship.
  • Sunday Evening: 2 hours for technical coverage and audio mixing for evening choir practice and worship services.
  • Wednesday Evening: 1 hour for setup and technical support for mid-week prayer and Bible study services.
  • Seasonal Adjustments: Additional hourly time may be required for special church events, including Easter and Christmas choir cantatas, revival services, and other meetings.
  • Administration: Additional 1-5 hours as needed during the week for system management, maintenance and preparation.

Primary Responsibilities

Service Setup & Technical Execution

  • Lead technical setup and operation of all audio/visual equipment and technology for scheduled Sunday and Wednesday services.
  • Mix audio for the choir, special music, and spoken word to ensure clear speech intelligibility and appropriate volume levels.
  • Manage and operate the livestream feed, including camera switching, lighting, and audio adjustments for online viewers.
  • Facilitate slide presentations, including lyrics, scripture, sermon notes, and stage lighting cues according to the service order.

Volunteer Support & Development

  • Train and schedule a rotation of volunteer A/V operators to assist during services and events.
  • Create a welcoming, grace-filled environment for volunteers by making technical responsibilities accessible and teachable.
  • Develop simple, step-by-step guides for equipment setup and operation.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all A/V and lighting gear.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues swiftly and efficiently, keeping downtime to a minimum.
  • Provide recommendations to church leadership for equipment repairs, upgrades, or replacements.
  • Coordinate with vendors for technical support.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Spiritual Commitment: A professing Christ-follower who supports the mission, values, and theological convictions of our church and the Baptist Faith and Message.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in live sound mixing, video production, and A/V system troubleshooting; church environment preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with digital audio consoles, multi-camera setups, livestreaming platforms, and presentation software.
  • Culture Fit: A servant’s heart with a collaborative, patient attitude when working with pastors, musicians, and volunteers.
